The Beginning Band is for first year players in fourth grade. No prior experience necessary! Students who have played their instrument for one year successfully will play in the Advanced Band. This band is mostly 5th graders. Beginning 5th Graders It is still possible to join the band in 5th grade. Many 5th grade beginners are able to catch up with the Advanced Band players by February with a consistent practice routine. Jazz Band The Jazz Band traditionally meets before school once or twice a week. Instruments that can play in the jazz band: all woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, guitar, and bass. Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion students must also participate in the band program. The jazz band is mostly 4th and 5th grade students. Students who play piano, guitar, and bass should have a private teacher and been taking lessons for at least a year. There will be auditions for new students who want to join jazz.
